I don't think they have the right approach to blocking things. Constantly with Adguard I'm white listing this white listing that. I'm a paying customer of ControlD since inception and hands down, their default home grown block list is phenomenal. Like I said, this is really a choice between two great options, so I'd love some feedback! Thanks in advance.
#ADGUARD DNS SPEED HOW TO#
It's unlimited (unlike AdGuard's solution) but I'm struggling to understand how to effectively use some of the functionality (there's a lot of options)! That being said, it did help us get to watch some futbol that was blocked in the USA without a VPN, which was great (we were able to access the site on the TV). I also really like the map of requests that AdGuard shows.ĬontrolD does have the autoconfiguration tool, but only with the native system DNS. I feel like AdGuard is a "simpler" interface and I find that I'm not having to sit and figure out what things do (it's also got the "autoconfiguration" for AdGuard users that sets up the DNS on all my devices that run AdGuard). Recognizing that this is the ControlD subreddit, I'd like to know why you'd choose ControlD for your DNS. Primarily, I'm basically using this to avoid additional trackers, block some unnecessary telemetry, and sometimes shut my kid's connection off when kid is being a brat 😊. I'm looking to choose one (I use WindScribe as my VPN and AdGuard on my devices) so this really is a choice between two great companies producing great products. I've been testing both AdGuard DNS and ControlD DNS and have been pleased with both.

Now all I show when I do a DNSLeak test is 185.203.218.107 Packethub s.a.I've read the comparison on ControlD's site of the various private DNS providers, but I'd love some additional insight. One more update… I populated the DNS servers of NordVPN in both Upstream and and bootstrap sections of the Adguard Home DNS Settings. Lastly, I re-ran the DNS Benchmark and nothing stands anymore. One always before the other? or does it matter? Quick question, is there any specific sequence for disabling the VPN or Adguard. You can log in fine… However they put a banner up to disable the VPN. That being said I also added and to the VPN Policy so that resolved my gmail issues and Amazon Prime Video issues. Also I noticed there is an option to disable protection in the settings page… That seems to be a gentler way to shut down adguard rather than using the toggle button.
#ADGUARD DNS SPEED UPDATE#
Once I did that and starting from scratch I was able to update the Adguard to the Latest 0.107.2 successfully. Not sure what I did but rebooting and powering off did not fix it. Thanks for the reply… I have since caused my router to shit the bed.

It will still use adguard Home for DNS quires
#ADGUARD DNS SPEED MAC#
I have mine set up to exclude Certain MAC addresses from the vpn use. You can not have both it is either one or the other. You can have it exclude vpn use for certain Ip/domains or MAC addresses. If you want to be able to have one computer not use VPN then use the VPN policy located secound from the bottom of the GL-iNet GUI. You can add a rule to the Filter DNS allowlist. I’m not sure I understand correctly, There are times when AdGaurd Home block something that is needed to use a website, is what I think you are getting at. to use it click browse next to restore backup find you file and click upload. Under the heading backup and restore there is a button that says generate achieve click it and save it to your harddrive. In LuCi go to system pull down tab and click Backup / Firmware upgrade. Hope I did cause to much confusion with Nordvpn DNS.
